About Us
An Appalachian Tale
There's something to be said for heritage and consistency. For quality and craftsmanship. In a fast-paced, machine-made world, there is value and heart in something made by hand that represents a long history of life on the land.
Hometown History
The Columbus Washboard Company has been in business since 1895 manufacturing washboards and offering high-quality vintage home cleaning supplies that speak to a bygone era. In 1999 the factory was moved from Grandview, just outside Columbus, Ohio to the small town of Logan, Ohio, nestled in the Hocking Hills region of the Appalachian basin. We're the only washboard manufacturer still operating in the United States and continue to assemble our products by hand with a team of skilled craftsmen from our local community.
Our Mission
Our vision for our neighborhood and our business is one of quality craftsmanship and a legacy of products that speak to the heritage of our region. It means something when we say 100% American made because everything comes from our location at 4 E. Main St. That's not something you see every day.
The Columbus Washboard Company offers washboards with a variety of rubbing surfaces including spiral metal, galvanized, stainless steel, brass, and glass. We also offers chalk, cork, and mirror surfaces. All of these boards are hand assembled one at a time with equipment dating back to the 1900's.
Peaking at 1,287,757 washboards made in 1941, today’s washboards are still used for hand scrubbing just like your Grandmother did. They are also used as decorative pieces for laundry rooms and kitchens, as furniture accents, and as good old-fashioned American Bluegrass musical instruments.
While we work with many vintage brands and products that are manufactured elsewhere, our washboards and several vintage products are a product of American hands and we want to keep it that way. The Columbus Washboard Company isn't sticking around just to make old-fashioned washboards. We're expanding our operation rapidly, innovating and manufacturing good old-fashioned American products right here in downtown Logan, with local labor and a community spirit.
Our Team
Led by Diane Hopkins, the devoted staff of the Columbus Washboard Company are local to the Hocking Hills region of Southeastern Ohio where our factory makes its home. We're proud to call each one of these hard-working team members neighbors, colleagues, and friends. Stop in to see us at our new location on East Main St in downtown Logan, Ohio for a factory tour and the chance to browse our store and gift shop.
